Ratings and Reviews
This app is amazing to create customized keyboards with or without pictures. It is easy to customize and customer support has been outstanding!
This app has endless potential!
I'm updating my review because this awesome app has gotten so much better. This app can support writing for students with mild to significant challenges with writing. We've gifted this app to kids who simply find writing tedious because the text prediction and spell-check make writing so much easier. The ability to listen to the text that has been written and to listen to the predicted text is awesome. My daughter's grade 4 and 5 classmates use this app as a word processor and it works for the highest achieving students as well as the most struggling writers.
I LOVE that we can now easily share custom keyboards and notepads between iPads. The new notepad features make journaling easy by allowing you to insert photos into each page and easily save writings over time. This makes Abilipad the ideal app for creating a writing portfolio for dynamic ongoing assessment of a student's writings.
We use this app as an alternative pencil so my daughter can write "without standards". For Maggie, we have created custom keyboards that break the alphabet into discrete chunks; she swipes between these chunks of letters to access the full alphabet. We have been able to create high-contrast keyboards that account for Maggie's poor vision.
My previous review is below:
My daughter has significant disabilities and emerging literacy skills. I am a graduate student in education. This app is truly phenomenal for how it allows students at any literacy level to access writing. We have designed keyboards with this app which pair symbols and pictures with written text so Maggie can write her own unique sentences. We have keyboards and notebooks that allow Maggie to tell us about her day at school, what she did, and who she did it with; to participate in Girl Guides and Brownies; to journal about her experiences; to comment on school activities and to participate in class discussion. I love how this is such a concrete tool to develop her literacy skills and give her a tool to express her own unique voice in activities that were currently inaccessible or where she only had access to choice-making before. I can't wait to see the new upgrades because all this app lacks is a more intuitive way to create and share keyboards, and a private way to share keyboards between iPads, such as between school and home.
Up to six family members will be able to use this app with Family Sharing enabled.
