Description

Leafsnap is the first in a series of electronic field guides being developed by researchers from Columbia University, the University of Maryland, and the Smithsonian Institution. This free mobile app uses visual recognition software to help identify tree species from photographs of their leaves.

Leafsnap contains beautiful high-resolution images of leaves, flowers, fruit, petiole, seeds, and bark. Leafsnap currently includes the trees of the Northeast and will soon grow to include the trees of the entire continental United States.

Note that the recognition feature will only be available for iPads equipped with cameras.

LeafSnap for iPad or iPad 2

Griz46

An outstanding application for anyone interested in the outdoors and trees etc.

This application should be used by students in every school to help teach them about trees and their leaves, fruit and flowers.

The one most amazing feature of this application is the fact that the user can upgrade it themselves by using the camera built into the iPad 2. A great feature which adds an entire new dimension to the application.

Simply outstanding. 5 Stars

Not ready for release

The app downloaded perfectly but when it came to id a leaf, the camera was blacked out and identification was impossible due to loading for long periods of time. Such a shame since its a very handy app to have if it worked.
