Description

Every time you move a content from one app to the other, compare data side by side or multitask in any other way, you need all the windows arranged accordingly. Magnet makes this process clean and simple.

In one drag to the edge, you size a window into half of your screen. And by dragging windows to the corners, you snap them into quarters. Slide them to the bottom edge of your display to create thirds. Do the same on your ultra-wide monitor and arrange windows into sixths. Taking advantage of such arrangements eliminates app switching and greatly enhances workspace efficiency.

Magnet supports keyboard shortcuts as well, for every command it has to offer. There is that little icon sitting in the Menu Bar where you can find a predefined set or create yours.

Windows overlap when resized

Gio_M

Windows overlap including native Osx apps when resized. If the purpose of this app is to save time resizing to tile mulitple windows, you will end up doing it manually most of the time anyway. This is acknowledged as a rare problem in the FAQ, but happens with everyday apps like Chrome, Opera, Neo-office, VLC, Slack.

Magnet helps me organize my windows on-screen

Charles Lindsay

Perfect for people who multi-task! If you’re missing the "snap assist” feature in Windows since Windows 7, you’ll love Magnet, which performs the same function for the Mac desktop. Drag a window by its titlebar to the left or right edge of the screen, and the window will fill that half of the screen. Drag to a corner, and it’ll fill 1/4 of the screen. It works like a charm, and it doesn’t take too much RAM or CPU. This is from an 2.5GHz mid-2011 21.5” iMac, running Yos: Magnet uses 0.0% CPU while idle, spiking to 30% while you’re moving windows around, with between 3 and 5 threads. It uses 17.2MB of RAM, compressed to 4.1MB.

Good but...

slprime

I love that I can snap my windows to side or full screen by hitting the sides of the screen like in Windows. It does the job well enough although it does feel a little clunky.

SUGGESTION TO DEVELOPERS: After hitting a window to the top of the screen to get full size and then pulling the window away it does not return to the pre-full screen size it was before hitting the top of the screen. At least not in every application like Windows office. It would be great if this problem can be fixed.

All in all I am glad to have this

Developer Response

Thank you for feedback. Sometimes, when Magnet restores the original size of the window, it refuses to be enlarged over the screen edge. We are working on a workaround.
