Time spent with the Massey Lectures is time well spent.
For over 50 years the Massey Lectures Series has been an annual feast of ideas. Some of the most resonant voices of our times have given Massey Lectures — Lawrence Hill, Neil Turok, Margaret Atwood, Margaret Somerville, Stephen Lewis, Thomas King. Now you can experience the depth and breadth of Canada’s preeminent public lecture series in a totally new way.
In this iPad app, this historic series is stunningly brought to life with all-new multimedia content. Each selected Massey Lectures e-book is illuminated with vibrant, contextual content for a whole new reading experience. The app also contains hours of interviews, talks, and exclusive footage, available for free.
For the first time, within the app, you can get the audio and text of each selected lecture in one specially-priced package. You can save even more money by purchasing Massey Bundles, carefully curated sets of lectures that share relevant themes and ideas.
Uncover the full legacy and history of the Massey Lectures Series, from 1961 to today. Learn more about selected Massey authors, their lives, achievements, and beliefs. Explore the complex web of themes within the Massey universe, and hear unique thoughts and insights from the lecturers themselves.
There are big ideas in these lectures. And big ideas require bigger discussions. Inside the app are discussion forums for each individual lecture as well as the broader themes. Contribute to the conversation by posing a question, sharing an idea, or responding to another reader’s in-line comments.
There’s more to discover inside the app. Download for free and see for yourself.
About the Massey Lectures Series:
The Massey Lectures Series was created in honour of the Right Honourable Vincent Massey, former Governor General of Canada, and was inaugurated in 1961 to provide a forum on radio where major contemporary thinkers could address the important issues of the day. Each year a noted scholar or public figure is invited to give a series of topical lectures. The Massey Lectures are co-sponsored by CBC Radio, House of Anansi Press, and Massey College in the University of Toronto.
What's New in Version 1.4
We've added a new set to the collection entitled Doomed to Repeat. The saying is familiar - those who cannot remember the past are doomed to repeat it. These are cautionary tales, a reminder that to see forward clearly, we must also look behind us.
Books in the set include:
- Belonging, Adrienne Clarkson's brand new 2014 Massey Lectures
- The Wayfinders, Wade Davis's bestselling Massey Lectures
- A Short History of Progress, Ronald Wright's bestselling Massey Lectures
Exciting new multimedia content is also available for each of these writers.
no free content
Can't find any free content (although the app is free). Books cost $14 and up - WOW.
University already took my arms and legs, so I got nothin' left to pay for learning here. Wonder how much Mr. Massey charged for his words...
