About Calle 13

Puerto Rican pop duo Calle 13 is named for the street where vocalist Residente lived and where his stepbrother, producer Visitante, would meet up with him after their parents divorced. ∙ Calle 13’s Billboard-charting debut single, “Atrévete-Te-Te,” introduced their signature sound, which layers world music influences on top of reggaetón beats. ∙ Visitante and Residente are the most decorated artists in Latin Grammy history, winning 22 awards with Calle 13 and another two each from various side-projects. ∙ WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange contributed a spoken word interlude to “MultiViral,” an anti-propaganda track with lyrics based on topics fans suggested on social media. ∙ Lin-Manuel Miranda and Residente are cousins, and the rapper contributed a verse to “Immigrants (We Get the Job Done)” from The Hamilton Mixtape. ∙ Amnesty International and the Nobel Peace Summit have honored Residente for his lyrical and philanthropic commitment to social justice. ∙ Residente’s self-titled solo debut made Rolling Stone’s list of the 50 Best Albums of 2017.
