Known for their eternal 2004 hit “Knuck If You Buck,” the Atlanta rap group Crime Mob were instrumental in elevating Southern hip-hop in the mid-’00s. • Crime Mob formed at Cedar Grove High School in Ellenwood, Georgia. The group’s in-house producer, Lil Jay, cooked up beats using a demo version of Fruity Loops that didn’t allow him to save files onto his father’s PC. • The group’s self-titled 2004 debut includes the raucous, platinum-selling single “Knuck If You Buck,” featuring Lil Scrappy. The song has become a staple of nightclubs and Greek life at historically black colleges and universities. • The group’s 2007 sophomore album, Hated on Mostly, went Top 10 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
