About Jon Brooks

In the artist’s words: Describe one of your earliest musical memories in detail. Was it 1972? The Muppet Musicians of Bremen: Kermit the Frog narrates this nightmare inducing tale of animal abuse in the swamps of Louisiana. I begged Santa for this double fold-out album of madness and played it obsessively. What are your top 3 all-time favorite albums on Apple Music, and why? Why did you choose these three albums in particular? Arooj Aftab, Vulture Prince Nina Simone, Wild Is The Wind PJ Harvey, The Hope Six Demolition Project Ms. Simone is the Spanish word, duende, incarnate: she is everything I aspire to onstage. Ms. Aftab's counterpoint of past and present plays like one mystical epic. Hope Six is as close to my idea of songwriting perfection I’ve thus far encountered. What’s one of the most memorable moments in your career so far? Co-writing a song with a Toronto unhoused woman, Star. The song, Mothers of the Unmothered, was written, recorded, and never released back in 2007. The experience changed the way I approach songwriting. Is there anything left on your bucket list as an artist or band? If I could see the day wherein musicians no longer have to be tethered to an amoral, antidemocratic, surveillance capitalistic, algorithm machine—such a day would be on my musical ‘bucket list.’
