About Lambchop

Among the most consistently unique and rewarding American groups to emerge in the 1990s, Lambchop created an unclassifiable hybrid of country, soul, jazz, electronic, and avant-garde noise that seemed to draw from every conceivable tributary of contemporary music. Pulling together the varied elements of their sound was the surreal lyrical wit and droll vocal presence of songwriter and group leader Kurt Wagner. Their stylistic blend evolved from the detuned country accents of 1996's How I Quit Smoking and the widescreen Southern-tinged melodies of 2000's Nixon to the polished chamber pop of 2004's Aw C'mon and No, You C'mon, the evocative tone poems of 2012's Mr. M, the coolly expressive electronic surfaces of 2019's This (Is What I Wanted to Tell You), and 2022's smart blend of organic and electronic elements, The Bible.
