Connecticut-born singer/songwriter Michael Kroll first emerged in the early to mid-'90s, releasing a trio of well-received LPs that blended pop smarts with a roots rock approach. Influenced by jazz, blues, and classic albums by the Band and the Beatles, he made his debut in 1994 with Nothing Blue, and spent the remainder of the decade crisscrossing the country as a touring musician. By the end of the '90s, Kroll had scaled back his efforts in the music industry to focus on a different career. Although 13 years would pass between 1997's Salt and 2010's Saint Nobody, the singer remained dedicated to his craft and was actively writing and recording new material. While Saint Nobody launched Kroll back into the public eye, his follow-up album, Clamorous, was an even more concerted effort that saw him pairing again with longtime friend and producer Andy Green (John Cale, Lou Reed). Released in the spring of 2016, Clamorous put more emphasis on Kroll's melodic pop side and featured performances from veteran players like drummer Tony Mason (Norah Jones, Joan Osborne), keyboardist Kenny White (Marc Cohn, Shawn Colvin), and bassist Matthew Lindsey. ~ Timothy Monger
