About Raúl Di Blasio

Argentinian pianist Raúl Di Blasio initially studied Latin musical traditions and classical European composers, but formed a rock band in the 1960s, los Diabólicos, which gained some success nationally and continued on until 1973. He then returned to classical performance, touring South America throughout the middle of the decade and spending the late '70s and early '80s playing almost exclusively at a residency in the Chilean resort city of Viña del Mar. His 1983 solo debut marked him as a serious recording artist, and he became very successful (the media even dubbed him "El Pianista de Todos"). He moved to Miami in 1987, and three years later issued his BMG debut El Piano de América. Its 1994 sequel sold over a million copies. ~ Jason Ankeny
