About Walter Rhodes
Reportedly from Cleveland, Mississippi, USA, Rhodes was unusual, possibly unique, in coming from that state, to be a blues singing accordionist. He had one record issued, cut in 1927, and it seems certain that Charley Patton either knew Rhodes personally or his record, as Patton’s ‘Banty Rooster Blues’ is a cover of Rhodes’ ‘The Crowing Rooster’. Rhodes played in a band that included two guitars and a fiddle, though only a guitar duo backs him on record. He is said to have died in the 40s after being struck by lightning.
