About Yuri
Born in Veracruz, Mexico, actress and singer Yuri is one of Latin pop’s biggest stars, with a career dating back to the 1970s that has drawn comparisons to Madonna’s. ∙ Her international breakthrough, 1981’s Llena de Dulzura, featured the hit “Maldita Primavera” and was the first Gold-certified album in Spain released by a Latin American vocalist. ∙ The title track of the 1985 album Yo Te Pido Amor earned her a Grammy nomination for Best Latin Pop Performance. ∙ “Que Te Pasa” spent 16 weeks atop Billboard’s Hot Latin 50 in 1988, longer than any other No. 1 song on that chart in the ’80s, and won the Premio Lo Nuestro for Pop Song of the Year. ∙ In addition to acting in telenovelas, Yuri is also a well-regarded TV personality, notably as a coach on the Mexican version of The Voice and host of the country’s The Voice Kids. ∙ She received the Latin Grammys’ prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award in 2018.
