A Modest Proposal
Publisher Description
A Modest Proposal, is a Juvenalian satirical essay. Swift suggests that the impoverished Irish might ease their economic troubles by selling their children as food for rich gentlemen and ladies. This satirical hyperbole mocks heartless attitudes towards the poor, as well as Irish policy in general.

Wisdom
There is practical thinking here to behold. Yet appalling to think of what it would be like if it were common practise to eat poor children. I wonder if Swift was serious yet everybody took it as an absurd joke.
A wonderful satire
Swift's Modest Proposal is a fantastically humorous piece of historical satire. Depicting the squaller rampant across the Ireland in the 18th century. Swift's proposition to cull the orphans, poor, begards and subsistance famers for the dinner table of the elite speaks volumes on the perception of the Irish in the eyes of the English.
