As a half-demon master of the dark arts, Eve Levine isn’t what anyone would call angelic. That’s exactly why the Fates chose her for the job. She’s their secret weapon against the forces of evil. However after five years, Eve is tired of being the designated rebel of the angel corps, expected to break the rules, then penalized for it. When the leaderless djinn stage an uprising, Eve sees the perfect chance to get herself fired. As she plunges deeper into the demon world, though, she realizes she’s in danger of losing a lot more than her job.

From Publishers Weekly

Nov 30, 2009 – Armstrong (No Humans Involved) skimps on character development and plot in this novella, but makes up for it with accessible prose and a spunky protagonist. Deceased half-demon witch Eve Levine, now an angel, successfully managed to avoid employment during her entire mortal life, so she's not keen to spend her afterlife hunting demons at the command of the three Fates. Summoned from her vacation to settle a djinn uprising, Eve decides it's time to break some rules and get herself fired, but she quickly discovers that some red tape may exist for legitimate reasons. Readers hoping for more than a splash of romance or action should look elsewhere (one battle is summarized as “I pounced. We fought”), but the breezy, light dialogue has its moments, and Eve's reliably entertaining swagger will keep the pages turning.

Customer Reviews

As usual, an excellent example of what Kelley Armstrong does best - action, drama, mixed liberally with fine-crafted characters and glazed with wit and humor.
