Macbeth

Shakespeare is not meant to be read. 


Shakespeare at Play is dedicated to bringing you Shakespeare’s works as they are meant to be experienced: in performance. Macbeth, our second publication, brings you the entire text along with a full video production of the play. The production has been staged for the camera with an emphasis placed on clear, easy-to-understand storytelling. 


This is different from seeing a movie version of Macbeth. We include every scene from the play in its entirety, which makes it perfect for those studying Shakespeare or experiencing Macbeth for the first time. Most movie versions of Shakespeare’s plays include only about one-third of the play’s text, but Shakespeare at Play has staged the whole thing. 


Macbeth is our first publication to include an exciting new feature: scrolling text. With scrolling text you can move the text up and down to follow along with a scene while the video plays in a window at the top of the screen. 


We’ve also included commentary notes throughout the text from the University of Toronto’s Noam Lior as well as audio introductions to each scene which highlight basic plot details and points of interest in the scene under discussion. Our book also contains our own glossary for words and phrases that have gone out of use or mean something different today than they did 400 years ago. All of this is meant to make experiencing Shakespeare more enjoyable and less intimidating than it can be in a classroom setting or with a book in one hand and a dictionary in the other.

Because we're anticipate people using this ebook in places without access to a persistent internet connection, we have chosen to embed the video right into the ebook, which can make for a rather large file.
