The Guilty Plea

This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.

Bestselling author Robert Rotenberg is back with his next razor-sharp legal thriller. Rotenberg’s insider knowledge of the behind-the-scenes courtroom machinations and his mesmerizing trial scenes make this another scorching page-turner.

On the morning that his headline-grabbing divorce trial is set to begin, Terrance Wyler, youngest son of the Wyler Food dynasty, is found stabbed to death in the kitchen of his million-dollar home. Detective Ari Greene arrives minutes before the press and finds Wyler’s four-year-old son asleep upstairs. When Wyler’s ex-wife, a strange beauty named Samantha, shows up at her lawyer’s office with a bloody knife, it looks as if the case is over.

But Greene soon discovers the Wyler family has secrets they’d like to keep hidden, and they’re not the only ones. If there’s one thing Greene knows, it’s that the truth is never simple.

From Publishers Weekly

Jun 06, 2011 – A tired central plot and personal complications out of a daytime TV soap burden Rotenberg's second legal thriller featuring Toronto homicide detective Ari Greene (after Old City Hall). When Terrance Wyler "from the Wyler Foods grocery store" is found stabbed to death in his kitchen one morning, the obvious suspect is Wyler's wife, Samantha, with whom he was embroiled in a bitter divorce. Samantha e-mailed him a threat shortly before the murder, and their four-year-old son, who was asleep upstairs at the time, later informs the police that his mother visited him on the fatal night and told him she wouldn't be seeing him for a while. The prosecution falls to reluctant Jennifer Raglan, who's just stepped down as head Crown attorney to spend more time with her family and broken off an affair with Greene. Certain developments, like Raglan failing to challenge the defense attorney's claim that Samantha never threatened her husband in an e-mail, will leave not just lawyers scratching their heads.
