The Marrow Thieves
This book can be downloaded and read in iBooks on your Mac or iOS device.
Humanity has nearly destroyed its world through global warming, but now an even greater evil lurks. The indigenous people of North America are being hunted and harvested for their bone marrow, which carries the key to recovering something the rest of the population has lost: the ability to dream. In this dark world, Frenchie and his companions struggle to survive as they make their way up north to the old lands. For now, survival means staying hidden - but what they don't know is that one of them holds the secret to defeating the marrow thieves.
The novel is a young adult fiction and would wildly suit a grade nine/ten adult audience. As a teacher I look forward to having it as an option in our curriculum. It will require obvious sensitivity presenting it to a diverse audience. Off the record I found the plot and character development to be lacking. A half-fat rendition of many great indigenous novels, yet definitely proves more palatable to the young adult circuit. It had me drifting back into the idea of marrow thieves and I would likely pass it on with the Y.A. Disclaimer.
