The Twenty-Three

Book 3, The Promise Falls Trilogy

This book can be downloaded and read in Apple Books on your Mac or iOS device.

From New York Times and #1 international bestselling author Linwood Barclay comes the third and final spine-chilling thriller in the Promise Falls trilogy.

Everything has been leading to this.
It's the Saturday of Memorial Day weekend, May 23rd, and the small town of Promise Falls, New York, has found itself in the midst of a full-blown catastrophe. Hundreds of people are going to the hospital with similar symptoms--vomiting, dizziness, loss of consciousness--and dozens are dying. And those investigating the cause of the epidemic quickly zero in on the water supply. But the question for many, including private investigator Cal Weaver, remains: Who would benefit from poisoning this town? And what is their motivation?
Meanwhile, as tragedies mount and the number of suspects grows larger, Detective Barry Duckworth is faced with another problem. He knows that the killer of Olivia Fisher and Rosemary Gaynor is still out there. And what's more, he knows that the mystery behind the significance of the number 23 is growing and is linked to a much larger scheme than he'd originally imagined.
Detective Duckworth will have to race to put together all the pieces of this puzzle to stop someone's sinister revenge plot.

From Publishers Weekly

Sep 26, 2016 – Bizarre incidents continue to maim and kill the residents of Promise Falls, N.Y., in Barclay's fast and furious conclusion to the trilogy that began with 2015's Broken Promise. Many believe a serial killer is at work, while others are perplexed and refuse to believe such a thing could happen in their beloved burg. But then the next calamity hits with brute force: townspeople young, old, rich, poor begin to drop like flies from a mysterious ailment. Symptoms such as dizziness, blurred vision, and a racing heartbeat come on suddenly, and most victims are dead within hours. Others linger, comatose in a hospital crammed with bodies and helpless nurses and doctors. As the death toll rises, a pattern finally emerges, and Det. Barry Duckworth races to save the town and his own loved ones. Though some readers may feel befuddled by the sheer number of characters and relationships, Barclay skillfully juggles all the different plot lines right up to the stunning conclusion. Author tour.

Customer Reviews

The Twenty-Three

This book was written with the characters doing the story. It was difficult to tell, if or who was writing each chapter. It confused me, as a reader, to identify with each person.
The ending was abrupt and left the reader with no positive outcome. For these reasons, I did not find this book in the series to be a good one.

The twenty-three

Poor plot, poorly written, very amateurish
