#### Course Description

This is a Lesson idea, but really a project that spans multiple high school math courses. In this course and included book students will complete challenges to help discover and learn a variety of mathematical functions. After completing each chapter (function type), students will apply their new skills to create a work of art!

For many activities the teacher can choose the most appropriate version of the activity that meets his/her classroom needs.

If the teacher is in an 1-1 iPad classroom:
Have the students download the Beautiful Functions Multi-Touch book and assign them the course activities that are labeled option 1.

If the teacher is not in an 1-1 iPad classroom:
The activities labelled option 2 feature Desmos' Activity Builder activities should be chosen. The teacher will need to provide their students access to a web enabled device. I would recommend 1 device per 2 students.

This course is broken up into the following chapters:

Chapter 1: Linear Functions.
• Length: Approximately five 75 minute periods. Activities should not be assigned back to back. Space them out with appropriate practice on the skills.
• Length: Approximately seven 75 minutes periods. (Encourage students to work on their picture outside of class time).
Chapter 3: A Variety of functions with emphasis on function notation and transformations.
• Audience: 11th/12th grade Canadian students or Pre-Calc students / Algebra 2 students.
• Length: Approximately three 75 minutes periods. (Encourage students to work on their picture outside of class time).
Chapter 4: Trigonometric Functions.
• Audience: 11th/12th grade Canadian students or Pre-Calc students / Algebra 2 students.
• Length: Approximately three 75 minutes periods. (Encourage students to work on their picture outside of class time).
