Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Despite the frenetic action scenes, the movie sags, done in by multiple story lines that undercut one another and by the heaviness of its conceit. – Manohla Dargis, New York Times, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Cusack, with his one-of-the-guys face and his nice way with child actors, does creditable work as an Average American Dad trying to put things right. – Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly, Sep 20, 2011

Rotten: [Nothing] will give you more respect for how difficult it is to be an actor than watching top talent like John Cusack, Chiwetel Ejiofor, Amanda Peet and Oliver Platt struggling to treat the film's ungodly language and situations with perfect seriousness. – Kenneth Turan, Los Angeles Times, Jun 24, 2010

Rotten: 2012 is so long, and its special effects are at once so outrageous and so thunderously predictable, that by the time I lurched from the theatre I felt that three years had actually passed and that the apocalypse was due any second. – Anthony Lane, New Yorker, Jun 24, 2010

AMAZING

saw this movie in the theaters and i gotta say that this is one of the best end of the world movies out there hands down. there were some parts that were kinda cheesy (i.e the giant dohnut that rolls across the screen) But really this movie not only had great effects but it also had good story line. The characters in this movie were great as well. I gotta say that the director kinda went nuts with killing all the people in the movie ( which i got no problem with) but what do you expect it's an end of the world movie. but i do agree with some people that they kept it a little long and they could have made it a bit shorter but other than that i thought this movie was great and i can't wait to get it on my ipod:)

Great

Watched it in theaters, and was one of the better movies i saw in 2009. This movie has amazing special effects, and if your the type of person that loves to see huge citys literly disappear off the map in under 30 seconds, this movie is for you! The directer i think wanted this to be known as a amazing SFX movie as the storyline was a bit sketching in my opinion. Otherwise, still a great movie!

Pretty good

The scenes were a bit predictable, but was a good watch. Lots of special effects. Overall a good movie.
