About the Movie
Cultures collide when an American businessman (Tom Hanks) is sent to Saudi Arabia to close what he hopes will be the deal of a lifetime. Baffled by local customs and stymied by an opaque bureaucracy, he eventually finds his footing with the help of a wise-cracking taxi driver (Alexander Black) and a beautiful Saudi doctor (Sarita Choudhury).

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: It takes an actor with the finesse of Tom Hanks to turn a story of confusion, perplexity, frustration and panic into an agreeably uncomfortable comedy.
Fresh: If it sounds like Hologram is basically about a middle-aged white guy getting his groove back in the Middle East, well, yes, it is that. But if you squint hard enough, it's also a little bit more.
Rotten: Not even the mighty Tom Hanks can save this scattershot adaptation of Dave Eggers' lost-soul novel
Fresh: Quiet existential irony, albeit diluted and distorted, still reverberates in this stranger-in-a-strange-land story.
Nice film BUT...
I really enjoyed the story itself, but, there were some indirect "wrong" prejudices about Saudi Arabia in general... Take it the way you want.
Fan of Tom Hanks but not this movie
When you want to judge a film based on story, directing and editing, just ask "does this movie depend entirely on the main actor?" Well, this movie would not be watchable without Tom Hanks who could captivate an audience reading a phone book. The script for this movie fell short in its attempt to unveil the characters in the story - an American man and a woman from Saudi Arabia. The political undertone was probably the thread that was rated so highly by the critics for fear of being seen as politically incorrect. The movie was paced so slow with nothing happening for the first half. Having said that, Tom Hanks is a classic. There is this understated quality that just quietly shines through -no need to 'try' - its just who he is - much like man of the great leading men of the past (Stewart, Fonda, Tracy...).
Très déçu !
Film lent, sans saveur, ni véritable histoire ...
