Rotten: The movie plays safe by cutting every theme down the middle - a swing that's effective when splitting wood or vampire skulls, but dull when applied to filmmaking.
Rotten: The violence quickly becomes numbing, and Benjamin Walker plays Lincoln without the sense of irony needed to keep the historical and supernatural sides of the story consistently entertaining.
Rotten: Not just a letdown but an absolute disaster.
Rotten: Don't let the stupid title dissuade you from seeing "Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter." Let the stupid plot, the stupid history, the stupid action scenes, the stupid trivializing of slavery . . .
Fresh,well worth a watch....puts a twist on American history. ;)
I didn't mind the movie, though I had read the book awhile back and was able to remember more detail than the movie was able to provide, as is usually the case when books are adapted to the big screen. It isn't any gorier than most vampire movies as of late as one rotten tomatoe critic claimed. Nor do I think it trivialized slavery, it just wasn't the sole focus of the story is all. It actually made for an interesting and different kind of vampire story.
I saw this when it was in the theatres. Great movie, I was intrigued and couldn't look away. Worth every penny!
