Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The women Alfie betrays, played by Marisa Tomei, Jane Krakowski, Nia Long and Sienna Miller (Law's offscreen love and an actress of beauty and intelligence), give him so many deserved post-feminist whacks that you almost pity the guy. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Nov 24, 2006

Rotten: Charles Shyer (who processed the Parent Trap and Father of the Bride updates) plays coy with most matters sexual-an odd and puritanical approach to a character who molds his entire existence around the procurement and enjoyment of sex. – Jessica Winter, Village Voice, Nov 10, 2004

Fresh: The new script raises the emotional stakes of the old scenes it retains, cuts plot elements that can't be updated and creates new story lines that are just as effective as those it replaces. – Mick LaSalle, San Francisco Chronicle, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: The supporting cast of females (and Epps) is fun to watch, and the film boasts three original songs by Mick Jagger and Dave Stewart. – Jay Boyar, Orlando Sentinel, Jun 24, 2010

I finally rented this, and I'm glad I did, it was good, not amazing but good. O would watch again so I'm glad I don't own it, but I do recommend it, specially if you are in a relationship

Why isn't this move available to rent??

Wow, Jude Law at his finest. He romances girls and gets them as he does in life. He is so gorgeous and a great actor and a whole lot more. This movie is fantastic but a tad sad in some ways. I have watched it a few times and loved it each time. I have not been able to watch it (comfortably as a viewer) since I met him at a party in LA... about 8 years ago. At that party we danced, had a few drinks, and had a great time (understatement) as he was so much more- he was fun, polite, charming, giving, and loves to laugh. I, being a woman... like other woman thought he would fall in love with me- and of course he did not. But the few days we spent 24/7 (as friends) was so intense, so beautiful, yet sadly went so fast- I sometimes wonder if it was a dream. Yet I know- it wasnt- he wrote some great things to me on napkins, on peices of news paper, match books-esentaially anything that was close to him at the time. A total gentleman (hotel) charming, funny, generous as from what I saw he can do no wrong (except leave you and move on to another sexy beautiful woman. He is the most charming man on the planet. His face and body as you know are beautiful. He is really close to his character as he in this movie as he is in life.
The movie, "Alfie" is almost like he is not acting, it is so close to the the real him! Case in point, the woman he just got pregnant in the States 2009, was it a night ( I am guessing but I assure you I am not far from the truth, that she believed would be forever, (probably, like we all did/do). My heart really goes out to her, then again- she has his baby and will be forever linked to Jude. Now I ask myself, is it a blessing or a curse. She will probably have to see him, speak to him- and that for me would kill my heart. (She is not alone in thinking, hoping, believing that she might be "the one", we, I speak as a collective, as I have spoken to some of Jude's x's, whether he was with them for a night or a day, weekend or a year- it was all the same thing- extreme high, no drugs involved and then extreme pain). He has some quality (many qualities) that makes us all think that we are the only one. And we probaly are for a short time. When I was with him surprisingly - he did not flirt with anyone else, he gave all his attention to me. A real gentlman. No one will ever have Jude Law, as a lover or a live in or husband for my humble opinion. Again, his charachter in Alfie is really him, the real him (if there is such a thing). OK obviously there is some light acting but he is really just like the "Jude Law" we all know and love (or hate). What he portrays in this wonderful movie again is as close to him as the millions of women will ever get. So buy the movie if you are a fan and keep it close to your heart. Guys may not get it but women will. He cannot be with one woman for too long, without cheating. He is one of the most charming men on this planet that I have had the extreme pleasure of meeting and consider my time with him a blessing. Yes it was all it was cracked up to be and much more-however, I learned many important life lessons while I was with him, and after. - He is actually more good looking than in this movie or closer, and I did the Hollywood Scene for about 5 years. I met a lot of gorgeous charmimg actors, no one reaches his ankles as far as I am concerned. No one woman, like this movie; will ever have him for too long, as it is almost like he gets 'hit' by another woman, and he cannot resist (kinda like a zombie), not in a derogitory sense- but he cannot resist the next woman, if she is beautiful, sexy and smart. And, if you can make him laugh- you have the perfect combo to get him for that short while. If you can act, pretent, to possibly resist him all the better. Like in this movie he just cannot resist another, pretty - yet more important, different woman. He needs to be loved and cherished, and once he is- he is gone. This is a fantastic movie, to see if you want to see the closest thing to JUDE LAW you will ever see, in my opinion. Watch it and dream ladies, and I watch it and miss him so very much.
