Plot Summary

Based on an incredible true story, Coach Carter is the inspirational account of controversial basketball coach Ken Carter (Academy Award nominee Samuel L. Jackson), who received both high praise and staunch criticism when he made national news for a gymnasium "lockout" of his entire undefeated team for poor academic performance. With the players, the parents, and the community rallying to get the team back on the court, Carter must overcome the obstacles of his environment and show the young men a future that stretches beyond gangs, drugs, prison and even basketball.

Fresh: One of those highly effective conventional pictures that remind us that conventionality isn't always a bad thing. – Stephanie Zacharek, Salon.com, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: The basketball footage is often thrilling, the camera whooshing through the action like a darting point guard. – Sean Daly, Washington Post, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: Jackson plays the coach with wit and authority. His imposing presence ensures that he won't have to take much guff, even from the toughest punk on the team. – Roger Moore, Orlando Sentinel, May 13, 2009
