About the Movie

Two proper Englishwomen, determined to get away from their drab lives and inattentive husbands, find paradise in the serene countryside of the Italian Riviera in this enchanting adventure starring Josie Lawrence and Miranda Richardson. When the pair rent a magnificent villa for a month, they share expenses with two unlikely companions - an austere widow and a bored socialite. At first, personalities clash, but the hideaway holds a special magic that soon sparks friendships and reminds the women of ways to live and love that have long eluded them. Stellar performances and breathtaking scenery make the Academy Award nominated Enchanted April a captivating delight for everyone who's ever dreamed of taking the perfect holiday!

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: The ladies are well bred, the scenery is lovely and the dialogue is polished and polite. It helps that the same villa in Portofino where Miss von Armin wrote the novel has been used to fine effect as the film's principal setting. – Janet Maslin, New York Times, May 27, 2011

Fresh: That's what's appealing about the movie (everyone walks away happy) and also forgettable (everyone walks away mush). – Entertainment Weekly, May 27, 2011

Fresh: In a raucous movie summer, this is a film for those who appreciate wisteria and sunshine, and a recollection of a time when women and movies could be purveyors of enchantment. – Richard Corliss, TIME Magazine, May 27, 2011

Rotten: Strong cast's reliable playing is undercut by a script that dawdles over well-trod territory. – Variety Staff, Variety, May 27, 2011

Enchanted April

This is a great movie. Just watched it for a second time. It doesn't take itself too seriously. the movie is about how managing to get out of foggy rainy Britain to a villa in Italy transforms the lives of the four women. Nothing blows up but one is engaged by the story.
