Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Rise of the Silver Surfer is an existentially and aesthetically unnecessary sequel to the equally irrelevant if depressingly successful Fantastic Four. – Manohla Dargis, New York Times, Jul 16, 2008

Rotten: If you swept the cosmic dust of the superhero boom into a flimsy dustpan, you'd have the Fantastic Four franchise. – Scott Brown, Entertainment Weekly, Jul 7, 2010

Rotten: Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer is more ambitious than its predecessor. It's also more cluttered and less fleet: The light, pleasingly casual quality of the first picture has evolved into something forced and metallic. – Stephanie Zacharek, Salon.com, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: In Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, our heroes get what they deserve: a decent action flick with a jolt of visual wow. – Amy Biancolli, Houston Chronicle, Jun 24, 2010

Not the best

The first was terrific! The 2nd is deffenitly not as good. Do not get me wrong. It was real good but not the best.

Velveeta Marie CHEEEESE!

I didn't think that the writing could get worse - then it did. Wow. It's like 6th graders wrote the script. Predictable, banal dialogue with cliche-laden attempts at humor. Jessica Alba is a better actor than this - and they've written her as a bimbo who can't stop watching tabloid TV. Michael Chiklis also deserve better writing - his scope as an actor isn't done any justice in this popcorn flick. As for Mr. Fantastic and the Human Flame? 1-dimensional performances for 1-dimensional characters. The only performance worthy of note was the CGI character of the Silver Surfer. Ironically, it had more depth than the 4 performances of the "fantastic" 4 COMBINED. This movie does not even remotely measure up to sequels in its genre (X2: Xmen United, Batman Begins, etc.).

Movie industry: your audiences deserve better. Hire some writers - please???

At least you can say it's better than the first

OK, this movie was good but did not have me cheering. Although I was happy that it was a lot better than the first I still think it wasn't the best.
