Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: In her wily line delivery and cocksure swagger, McKinnon resembles nothing if not a young Bill Murray. Through her thick goggles is the impish spark that keeps movies like this in orbit.
Fresh: So, how do the Ghostbusters of today shape up against the boys of yesteryear? Pretty well ...
Fresh: How will the reboot be remembered a couple of decades down the line? Not as beloved, or beloathed; more likely as beliked, if it's remembered at all.
Rotten: This is a mediocre horror/comedy that deserves neither high praise nor disparagement.
Unoriginal, unintelligent and lacks the magic of the original
What can one say that hasn't been said about this film? If you don't like it, you are instantly branded a racist or sexist man baby. But I just didn't find this film worth watching in any respect. It simply wasn't funny, the performances stereotypical and unfunny, and filled with horrible CG effects. It's a sort-of remake of the original ghostbusters, which incidently was a clinic in comedy, but this version lacks any of the wit, charm and humour of the first. I like each of the actresses in their own right (admittedly I don't know any of Leslie Jones' work), but this just doesn't work when they are thrown together and told to "be funny". It's a shame, because I do think there could be an interesting story they could have told. Sadly not to be in this lemon.
First Lone Ranger, now Ghostbusters. What the heck happened to Hollywood?
"So It's girls, what's the big deal?"
-if it were cast by brave talking dogs, it'd be easier to relate than this girl power wannabe PC crap.
