This is not a boxing movie. Nor an authorized biography. It’s a documentary about the art of politics in the 21st century. The film God Save Justin Trudeau follows MP for Papineau Justin Trudeau and Senator Patrick Brazeau as they train for a boxing match that will forever change their lives. A metaphor for the ongoing political struggle between the Liberals and Conservatives since the founding of Canada, the documentary is both an intimate portrait of a young politician and a prime example of politics as a spectacle. Is there a parallel between boxing and politics? What does it take to win? Is boxing the best way, in the early twenty-first century, to win hearts and minds in the public, political and media spheres?
