About the Movie

It’s a new day for the Halifax Highlanders. A pro lockout has reunited old teammates and brought a crew of new players to the bench; notably missing from the line-up, however, is everyone’s favorite enforcer and heart of the team, Doug “The Thug” Glatt. Sidelined after one too many hits and now married with a baby on the way, Doug is hanging up his skates and settling into life as an insurance salesman. But when Doug’s nemesis, Anders Cain, is made captain of the Highlanders and new ownership threatens to tear his team apart, Doug is compelled back into action.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Baruchel oversees matters with skill and enthusiasm - even if he is a little too enthusiastic to demonstrate the project's un-PC bona fides - and Scott is once again amiability incarnate as the good-hearted Glatt. – Clark Collis, Entertainment Weekly, Sep 1, 2017

Rotten: "Goon" was a keeper. The perhaps prophetically named "Last" isn't exactly 101 minutes in the penalty box, but it's a disappointing throwaway. – Dennis Harvey, Variety, Sep 1, 2017

Rotten: A raunchy, ploddingly unfunny comedy sequel to 2012's equally crass but disarmingly endearing "Goon." – Michael Rechtshaffen, Los Angeles Times, Aug 31, 2017

Fresh: Though not as fresh or funny as its predecessor, this feature directing debut for actor Jay Baruchel stays true to its spirit and will please its most enthusiastic fans. – John DeFore, Hollywood Reporter, Aug 30, 2017

GOON 2

BETTER THEN ORIGINAL. BEENM WAITING FOR IT TO COME OUT SINCE I SAW IT AT THE MOVIE THEATRE.

Let down

Baruschel has allowed his amazing cast from the original to become caricatures of themselves. The framing and cinematography struggles to evolve beyond a trailer for the latest EA hockey game, and the story is very forced. There are some brilliant moments, but they fail to outshine the glaring shortcomings of this sequal.
