Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Larry Crowne is more than a missed opportunity. It's alarmingly, depressingly out of touch. – Peter Travers, Rolling Stone, Jul 7, 2011

Rotten: When it comes to unemployment-themed cinema, I'll take the greater realism of last year's The Company Men or this year's Everything Must Go over Hanks's too rosy vision of life after the pink slip. – Mary F. Pols, TIME Magazine, Jul 5, 2011

Rotten: Neither fish nor fowl, Larry Crowne skitters between pathos and shtick, wasting abundant acting talent as it goes. – Ella Taylor, NPR, Jul 5, 2011

Rotten: To pluck romantic comedy from the jaws of a social crisis is a laudable project, worthy of Preston Sturges, and it's a pity that this featherlight drama-written by Tom Hanks and Nia Vardalos, and directed by Hanks himself-should falter in its task. – Anthony Lane, New Yorker, Jul 18, 2011

Larry Crowne

In a time when people are falling so hard they are finding it virtually impossible to get up......this movie shines a little light on the dark side.
This movie is for people who have seen this side of life and appreciate the light hearted nature of this movie..For those who have not and are sitting in the supposed job of there dreams and realizing they have twisted and turned it until it has no life left, and are therefore sitting at the top miserable. I feel sorry for you that you will always be the critic and never be able to see things like this movie through the eyes of the less fortunate.....our lives, in my humble opinion, are less narrow and therefore able to appreciate a larger variety of entertainment.
Great job Tom!!!!!

It was ok!

Not the greatest, but definitely entertaining! Thought it was fun and light!

Can't believe two superb stars got talked into this shallow movie.
The subject matter could have evolved into a great film but it seemed as if nobody quite knew where to take off.
Also truly couldn't detect much chemistry between Tom and Julia.
Don't waste your money on the rental. Likely be on TV next week and if you want to snooze give it a shot.
