Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: More often than not ... "Selma" focuses on the one thing we don't expect in a movie about Martin Luther King Jr. - his doubts - and Oyelowo comes through with a deeply felt and quite brilliant performance. – Ty Burr, Boston Globe, Jan 12, 2015

Fresh: As emotionally and racially charged as the film's story is, director Ava DuVernay is determined to deliver a full-bodied, balanced drama that derives its power from the central fight for understanding and respect. – Jim Schembri, 3AW, Mar 7, 2015

Fresh: Skilfully directed by Ava DuVernay and featuring a wonderful leading performance from David Oyelowo, Selma pulls back the curtain on a riveting piece of U.S. history. – Matthew Toomey, ABC Radio Brisbane, Feb 23, 2015

Fresh: For all its evasions, short cuts, and mismanaged ideas, Selma can't be dismissed. Its modest achievements engross. – Peter Galvin,, Feb 12, 2015

worth it and more

I was moved to watch this after seeing the emotionally charged Owelowo at the academy awards. Even knowing the story already this movie captivated me. Music, cinematography, immersion into the 1960’s and how so much is relevant today! Equality. Really?
