About the Movie
It's the night before Christmas, and not a creature is stirring - except for a psycho axe-murderer disguised as Santa. When a small-town sheriff (Malcolm McDowell of ROB ZOMBIE'S HALLOWEEN, TV's FRANKLIN AND BASH) and his deputy (Jaime King of SIN CITY) investigate a horrific mass homicide at a local motel on Christmas Eve, they discover there is a killer Santa Claus on the loose. While the killer is still in the area, the sheriffs run into one problem - nearly every person in town is dressed for the annual Santa costume contest. With the town's body count rising, the race is on to put an end to jolly old St. Nick's murderous rampage. The film is a loose remake of the controversial cult-classic SILENT NIGHT, DEADLY NIGHT.

Top Critics' Reviews
Fresh: This brisk reimagining of the 1984 slasher "Silent Night, Deadly Night" delivers the seasonal goods with admirable efficiency and not a little wit.
Fresh: Apart from some modestly inventive carnage and an undeniably humorous hambone turn by Malcolm McDowell, there's really nothing here to make genre fans dash through the snow (or maneuver through traffic) to megaplexes.
Fresh: The movie's intended audience will likely be satisfied by its parade of gory mayhem, cheap thrills and groan-worthy dark humor. Everyone else: You're on your own.
Rotten: This unimaginative remake of Silent Night, Deadly Night continues the trend of mediocre remakes of '80s era horror films.
Reading the Rotten Tomatoes reviews, I had high hopes for this remake. I fully intended to check my brain at the door and enjoy a seasonal bloodbath. The new trend of forgoing true gore effects and relying on CGI effects for the bloodletting, is just plain horrible. The kills are generic and sorry, this much hyped woodchipper scene??? Fargo did it far better. I think perhaps they were trying to recapture the cheese of 80s slashers, but it just came across forced, and somewhat dull. Avoid.
A near perfect slasher movie
Stephen C. Miller's seasonal slasher movie has everything I could have hoped for. Dismemberment, death by wood chipper, boobies, a bad attitude and a flamethrower murder or three. I dug it! It also highlights a very real, and often overlooked, cynical view of the holiday. Christmas isn't all roses and good cheer. There are a lot of people out there, like myself, who hate this holiday. And there are more than one or two who tend to go a little mad some times. Enough philosophy. Jaime King is as good as ever in this. This woman sticks by her genre movies and she owned it here. But kudos as well to our Bad Santa. He said but two words, yet turned in a great performance as an iconic horror bad guy. This dude was creepy. If I see him climbing down my chimney, I'm grabbing the family and running out the back. I'm adding Silent Night to my seasonal watch list of anti-Christmas movies alongside Black Christmas and Die Hard. This is a Good.
