Plot Summary

A young couple (James Marsden and Kate Bosworth) moves to a quaint southern town. Soon their perfect getaway turns out to become a living hell when dark secrets and lethal passions spiral out of control. Trapped by a pack of depraved locals led by a ruthless predator (Alexander Skarsgård, TV’s “True Blood”), they face a night of agonizing suffering and endless bloodshed. Now their only hope for survival is to become more savage than their merciless torturers. Also starring two-time Academy Award® Nominee James Woods.

Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: Lurie informs his movie with plenty of nods to the original and at least manages a story that will have people talking - if not about the nature of human violence, then about the grisly depiction of it. – Scott Bowles, USA Today, Sep 15, 2011

Fresh: While Lurie could have gone lighter on the symbolism, he ratchets up the tension with deft intelligence. He's not just making a thriller but a horror film, and we feel his own fear in every scene. – Elizabeth Weitzman, New York Daily News, Sep 16, 2011

Rotten: One of those movies that sits in an armchair, smokes a pipe and reflects "seriously" on "the question of violence," but the main reason to see it is for the hilariously nasty uses it devises for a bear trap, nail gun, etc. – Kyle Smith, New York Post, Sep 16, 2011

Rotten: Back in 1971, the Peckinpah film horrified moviegoers with its bloody climax, whereas today people are so vengeful and sadistic that the remake is just another multiplex crowd pleaser. – J. R. Jones, Chicago Reader, Sep 15, 2011

one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It says it's an edge of your seat thriller, and nothing is like that. It's about a bunch of hillbillies and rednecks that want a girl who is already taken. The end sucked.

Horrible acting. Brutal movie overall.

Surprisingly awesome

Rented this expecting some over the top, gore filled movie, but I was surprised at the decent story line. Just the right amount of gore at the end to top it all off, but nothing that will make you puke watching it. definitely recommend!
