About the Movie

A young couple (James Marsden and Kate Bosworth) moves to a quaint southern town. Soon their perfect getaway turns out to become a living hell when dark secrets and lethal passions spiral out of control. Trapped by a pack of depraved locals led by a ruthless predator (Alexander Skarsgård, TV’s “True Blood”), they face a night of agonizing suffering and endless bloodshed. Now their only hope for survival is to become more savage than their merciless torturers. Also starring two-time Academy Award® Nominee James Woods.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The original Straw Dogs, at least to me, isn't close to being one of Peckinpah's masterpieces, but it's a movie that the people who first saw it still remember 40 years later. I doubt that anyone will remember the new one by next month. – Owen Gleiberman, Entertainment Weekly, Sep 15, 2011

Fresh: Lurie informs his movie with plenty of nods to the original and at least manages a story that will have people talking - if not about the nature of human violence, then about the grisly depiction of it. – Scott Bowles, USA Today, Sep 15, 2011

Rotten: Rod Lurie's bird-brained remake of "Straw Dogs" doesn't work on its own terms, and it can't hold a candle to the unruly, unstable merits of Sam Peckinpah's 1971 original. – Michael Phillips, Chicago Tribune, Sep 15, 2011

Rotten: One of those movies that sits in an armchair, smokes a pipe and reflects "seriously" on "the question of violence," but the main reason to see it is for the hilariously nasty uses it devises for a bear trap, nail gun, etc. – Kyle Smith, New York Post, Sep 16, 2011

ihatethismovie

one of the worst movies I have ever seen. It says it's an edge of your seat thriller, and nothing is like that. It's about a bunch of hillbillies and rednecks that want a girl who is already taken. The end sucked.

Crap

Horrible acting. Brutal movie overall.

Surprisingly awesome

Rented this expecting some over the top, gore filled movie, but I was surprised at the decent story line. Just the right amount of gore at the end to top it all off, but nothing that will make you puke watching it. definitely recommend!
