Plot Summary

It’s great to be Spider-Man (Andrew Garfield). For Peter Parker, there’s no feeling quite like swinging between skyscrapers, embracing being the hero, and spending time with Gwen (Emma Stone). But being Spider-Man comes at a price: only Spider-Man can protect his fellow New Yorkers from the formidable villains that threaten the city. With the emergence of Electro (Jamie Foxx), Peter must confront a foe far more powerful than he. And as his old friend, Harry Osborn (Dane DeHaan), returns, Peter comes to realize that all of his enemies have one thing in common: Oscorp.

Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: Despite the efforts of Electro, the franchise is running shockingly low on juice. – Anthony Lane, New Yorker, May 5, 2014

Rotten: How bad is this one ...? Amazingly so. Villainy abounds, but the villains are strident contrivances. Spider-Man flies, but does so dutifully, without joy. – Joe Morgenstern, Wall Street Journal, May 1, 2014

Fresh: When Garfield conceals Peter's confused-angry- betrayed scowl beneath that shiny red mask, Spider-Man 2 summons the giddy derring-do of the best Iron Man offerings. It's a good movie that could have been great. – Robert Wilonsky, Dallas Morning News, May 1, 2014

Fresh: Overstuffed plot and too many villains, but the visual effects pop, and Garfield/Stone are still better than Maguire/Dunst. – Richard Roeper, Richard, May 1, 2014

This movie is so astounding that I walked out of the theatre and thought, "I wanna see that again." So I did. And I still loved it. This movie is so good that I can watch it, walk outside and take a breath of fresh air, then walk back in and re-watch it. I LOVE THIS MOVIE.

Best movie ever

You have to see this movie its so good
At the end its very shocking you find out about his parents and how they died

Too much achieving so little

I think we all expected something better. This movie is definitely worth watching if you are a comic book geek, but I wouldn’t purchase it. There are fun parts to it such as the action scenes, the chemistry between Peter and Gwen etc. But the story line stinks! There are too many plots going on and none of them are developed very well or relate to each other. These plots include Peter’s father, Electro, the Green Goblin, the story with Gwen and they barely added Rhino. SpiderMan has the most / best villains compared to any superhero. My hope for the next one: a focused story with a better villain. May I recommend Mysterio? Out of all the super hero movies released in 2014, this one is definitely the weakest!
