Top Critics' Reviews

Fresh: The American Side shows glimmers of ingenuity, both with its use of Tesla mystique and with atmospheric location work that makes Buffalo a presence. – Ben Kenigsberg, New York Times, Apr 29, 2016

Fresh: True to form, the screenplay... is barely coherent in its explication of the convoluted plotline. But it does provide a fair share of hard-boiled, frequently amusing dialogue and a plethora of colorful characters. – Frank Scheck, Hollywood Reporter, Apr 29, 2016

Fresh: While The American Side may not quite achieve the classic thriller tone to which it aspires, it does create an enjoyably hard-boiled world. – Abbey Bender, Village Voice, Apr 27, 2016

Over A Barrel

This film is a low-budget masterpiece, a movie-making masterclass. A riddle, inside an enigma, wrapped up in a garlic sausage.

Brimming with rummy wit & cynical sang-froid, the screenplay keeps pace with its rightful progenitors—Hammett, Spillane & most of all the incomparable Raymond Chandler.

And all of this directed & co=written with great bolsjy-buffalo-balls of fire by A CHICK!

With dames like Jenna Ricker with a finger on the trigger, the Bechdel Test withers like a shell-schlocked snowflake & into Marxist shadows where it belongs, in the supply cabinet next to the the toilet paper.

It’s a win-win for connoisseurs of Gin-ema, complex & vague, even hostile to its audience, like the hard-knocks of real life, but shorter & less boring.

So cuddle-up with somebody you don’t trust & slide on over The American Side.
