About the Movie

Based on the hilarious best-selling novel, this sinfully funny movie stars Academy Award® winner Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway. As assistant to impossibly demanding New York fashion magazine editor Miranda Priestly (Streep), young Andy Sachs (Hathaway) has landed a job that "a million girls would die for." Unfortunately, her heaven-sent appointment as Miranda's personal whipping girl just might be the death of her!

Rotten: The comic appeal of The Devil Wears Prada is the cinematic equivalent of a size 2 -- wafer-thin and ultimately lacking in meat and substance. – Claudia Puig, USA Today, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: The Devil Wears Prada tells a familiar story, and it never goes much below the surface of what it has to tell. Still, what a surface! – David Denby, New Yorker, Jul 15, 2006

Fresh: The Devil Wears Prada is primarily an occasion to celebrate Meryl Streep as a grand comedienne. – Gene Seymour, Newsday, Jun 24, 2010

Fresh: The Devil Wears Prada is two films in one: a caustic, energetic satire of the fashion world and a cautionary melodrama. – James Berardinelli, ReelViews, Jun 10, 2008

FINALLLLLY

They finally got this movie on! I love it, such a great story behind it. One of my fave movies ever.

Stellar Performances

Reasonably true to the novel for anyone who might have read it before the movie came out, but Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly is not to be missed. Once again, demonstrating her staggering dramatic range, Streep exceeds all expectations in this biting, comedic role. (Her Oscar nomination for this role was well earned.) Anne Hathaway gives a commanding performance as the story's protagonist as well. Good script, very well cast.

For a chick flick...

Even if you hate chick flicks (which I usually do) you will love this. Well written. Well acted. Well directed. This is an extremely good movie. Watch it! Streep gets better with age.
