About the Movie

A raw and openhearted drama/comedy about Henry, a man left to care for his infant son when his wife is imprisoned for cheating on him with a minor. THE HUSBAND takes an uncompromisingly honest look at a character rendered utterly humiliated by the person he loves. As Henry struggles to continue on with the day-to-day responsibilities of changing diapers and making it into the office, he attempts to remedy his grief with erratic and self-destructive distractions until he hits the inevitable bottom, must face what his life has become and what he must do to get his mojo back.THE HUSBAND looks at growing up through a distinctly contemporary lens as it examines coming of age not through the story of a teenager or even a young man in his twenties, but through the story of a thirty-something married man with a job in advertising and a 16-month old son.Positioned on the threshold of Generation X and the Millenials, Henry exhibits the characteristic disenchantment and narcissism of a generation raised to feel entitled to happiness and self-actualization often at the cost of anything permanent.

Fresh: McDonald isn't seeking to make explosive drama about a human time bomb, preferring to show the many mood swings of real life. – Peter Howell, Toronto Star, Mar 13, 2014

The Husband

4.5 out of 5. A great find. It is not a shoot-em up blockbuster or a light rom-com. What this movie offers is an awesome touch of tense and funny and real.
A release of fresh air for those who've dealt with and come to terms with the messy relationship stuff in their lives.

The Husband

This honest, funny and ultimately surprising film is a showcase of understated Canadian talent. The low-key acting and rolling pace embrace the normality of life's most unfortunate curveballs, while the narrative and dialogue remain fresh throughout the film. The characters are rich, dimensional and display complexities as deep and real as the landscapes of Toronto, against which the story is set. A satisfying film in every way.

Comedy?

I kept waiting for him to kill himself. Canadian content has been getting really good in the last few years and then this! Sorry not a comedy.
