Top Critics' Reviews

Rotten: The filmmaker Josh Koury has latched onto a great subject for We Are Wizards, his peek at some of the more engaged fans circulating in the Harry Potter world. – Manohla Dargis, New York Times, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: [Director] Koury doesn't make any points in We Are Wizards, particularly, but he stylishly shares the love. – Lisa Schwarzbaum, Entertainment Weekly, Nov 24, 2008

Rotten: Among movies about fans' obsessive fixations on fictional universes, the film registers neither as bemusedly distanced as Trekkies nor as dramatically engaged as King of Kong. – Ronnie Scheib, Variety, Jul 7, 2010

Fresh: Ignore the scattershot approach, however, and there's considerable pleasure to be had in spending time with these bizarre enthusiasts and watching the creative ways they find to express their obsessions. – Lance Goldenberg, Village Voice, Jun 24, 2010

An Enjoyable Film

It's no Young@Heart, that's for sure...

We Are Wizards has some important themes - such as the power and necessity of the fan community - and features some great sounding Potter Rock/Punk Bands. But the film suffers from lack of focus, and only pays superficial attention to any one topic.

It's a good movie, but it could have been better.

This was not good.

It could have been interesting... but it was not. Too much really bad music and just creepy weird dudes (and not in a funny-good way.)
