- The Basics
Amon Adonai Santos de Araujo Tobin (from Rio de Janeiro) has an Irish stepfather (hence the Tobin) and was raised in England, and the exoticism inherent in his roots appears to have driven his jazzy approach to drum 'n' bass. All manner of influences surface in his work, notably creative samples of motorbike engines (on Supemodified) and architectural acoustics (Out from Out Where). Survey more of Tobin's incredible soundscapes in Next Steps.null The Basics

Tobin's working methods on his game soundtrack Chaos Theory reveal plenty about the man behind the sonic pastiche: He hired a band, of sorts, whose number included an under-the-radar Mexican bassist/composer, the Modugno brothers from Italy (experts on the Hammond organ and the Mellotron), and flautist Eiji Miyake from Japan. They played, Tobin sampled them, and a classic was created.null Next Steps

Currently residing in Montreal, the Brazilian-born Amon Tobin grew up in London . . . and this first-class international pedigree points directly to his highly inventive fusions of jazz, samba, and jungle. Perhaps best known for his work on the Tom Clancy video game Chaos Theory: Splinter Cell 3, Tobin pushes boundaries with every new release, from his first full-length LP as Cujo (Adventures in Foam) to his collaborations with turntablist Kid Koala. Tobin marks the state-of-the-art in creative sampling and exploratory beat-making.null Complete Set
