Description

Dan Harris is a fidgety, skeptical ABC newsman who had a panic attack live on Good Morning America, which led him to something he always thought was ridiculous: meditation. He wrote the bestselling book, "10% Happier," started an app -- "10% Happier: Meditation for Fidgety Skeptics" -- and now, in this podcast, Dan talks with smart people about whether there's anything beyond 10%. Basically, here's what this podcast is obsessed with: Can you be an ambitious person and still strive for enlightenment (whatever that means)? New episodes every Wednesday morning.

Maybe even 11% happier

I read Dan’s book and he continues his quest for understanding of meditation. Dan has a great attitude and although I haven’t yet made the leap to creating a regular habit of meditation, this type of podcast give me more insights and different perspectives…and makes me 1% more willing to give it a try (one day).

Podcast picks up from 10% happier the book

Like many, I struggle with focusing on continual self improvement. Being married with 2 young kids means its too busy to go to the gym and least of all developing any practice of the mind. I should feel 100% happy and grateful but i feel 80% miserable. I read Dan's book about 2 years ago or shall I say more accurately, he read to me because it was an audiobook. I also began meditating. The book is great because Dan does all the research into meditation that I normally would want to (but can't) do myself. He has access to "experts" from Joseph Goldstein to the the Dalai Lama and in turn their guidance is made accessible to the reader. Another very helpful aspect is how Dan uses his life experiences from his career and personal to illustrate the positive effect of his practice. On my commute to work I would listen to the audiobook and now with the podcast he brings everything that was great from the audiobook which is entertaining, personal, as well as informative to a podcast. The podcasts feel like you are sitting in a casual conversation but then turns into some deep topics (ie like a modern super cool version of "My Dinner with Andre"). Dan continues to bring diverse experts to share their own experiences and it is helpful for anyone doing any sort of practice to hear different paths and points of view. He makes the content super accessible to the masses and is also good at making his guests explain the terms and jargon. Hearing updates from Dan on his practice is especially cool. Keep up the great work!

10% Better is better than 99% of podcasts out there

Clearly, big fan of Dan's work. His book was awesome, and this podcast is a continuation of that.

For podcast listeners, it's comforting to know he can carry an interview without getting off topic, and there's no advertisement read outs (yet).
