Murder on Orchard Street
I thought the above review was a little harsh. My take is this women did a good job. Yes, you are correct that the murder was not solved but so much more was learned. Humanity and the choices we make in the wake of tragedy. These sisters are inspiring in the way they have moved forward and have joy and continue to invest in life. That’s worth the listen right there.
Hmmmmm
I don’t want to give too much away. It’s interesting in that it remains unsolved and most people don’t know about it, so by all means get the info out there. But the story is not unique, doesn’t provide any further leads, and the poor victim’s family - the O’Brien’s - are mixed up in the most dysfunctional system that I, personally, have heard presented in a podcast. And I am familiar, as most are, about the horrible NYPD system. It shows a NYPD that otherwise can’t handle this poorly investigated file but then allows the now retired lead officer aka “the closer” a chance at redemption by “reaching out” to a podcaster who refreshes the story for the public in, what really is, vain hope and spitting into the wind. Except for the O’Brien clan, none of the other characters compel me to recommend this: “the closer”, not able to extract information because he’s too busy yelling and bullying a potential witness; the potential witness aka victim’s BFF who doesn’t provide info at the time, refuses to cooperate directly after because he’s too upset at being considered a suspect, but years later now recalls info; the father of the BFF who can’t be bothered at the time but then provides advice to his son (aka Victim’s BFF) not to cooperate in the killing of his BFF; and the incredible witness/lawyer who doesn’t believe what they witnessed during a murder was important for days. WHAT?!? Can all these loathsome people be real? Sadly, yes. This is completely sickening that this poor guy was murdered and this was the system and safety net he lived in. This is not investigative in the least but it is information. I feel so sad for the O’Brien family that they have become a statistic. To sum it up: listen at your own risk.
Really not so great
Story just doesn’t really seem to “go” anywhere. Episodes are too short too. Each could be coupled with another and it’d be better and easier to get into.
