For Kicks, Episode 80: Canada wins gold and we say goodbye
And just like that, Canada are Olympic gold medal champions.
Wow. Just ... wow. It's not like us to have trouble finding words, and yet.
This episode was tough for us to do justice. Beating the USA for the first time in 20 years. Winning Olympic gold in a nerve-wracking and challenging final. Our final episode. These are all such Big Deals for us. But, like always, we we sat down and started talking about what we love—the Canadian women's national team.
We admit, it feels like absolute poetry we had the privilege of ending on this glorious high note. In this episode, we talk about:
- the semi-final match vs. USA
- the final gold medal match vs. Sweden
- what we hope for the future of this team and this sport
- and finally, we make a call to action to anyone who loves this game and feels like they have something to share; your voice is no smaller than ours so if you've been thinking about sitting down in front of a podcasting microphone (not even a very good one, ours was terrible for the first few years) our advice is to just do it.

After coming second in Group E following a draw with Great Britain, Canada opposed Brazil in the quarter-finals and will advance to the semi-finals following a dramatic win in penalty kicks.
In this episode we talk about the matches vs. Great Britain and Brazil in an attempt to process all our emotions. We also talk about our upcoming semi-final match vs. USA and Canada's chances to take a medal in the finals.

The hosts are amazing
A bit lacking but exciting all the same
Happy to find a podcast dedicated to the women’s team. Will continue to listen throughout the World Cup!
Think it’s unfortunate that the hosts weren’t willing to list the 23 likely to head to the World Cup - in the lead up to the biggest tournament all candidates should be discussed over and again; now is the time to get the names/stories of guaranteed, the likely, the hopeful, the bubble, the probably next time, and the unlucky fringe out there. If hosts of a dedicated podcast don’t talk about them, who will?
The review of the game vs Mexico was very light on any analysis. Don’t be afraid to criticize players. Also assumed all listeners had viewed the game and remember in detail. “There was that one (foul)” - what was that one? By who/on who? How did it come about/ what was outcome?

Womens soccer is great in Canada, it is great to have updates on what is going on where it is not coverd as much as it should be.
