Audiobook review podcast
A dude who listens to audiobooks and tends to talk over his female cohost. He also tends to frame books in terms of "hours" of listening. I have nothing against audiobooks, but it is a different medium and it influences the way one understands prose. He also tends to talk so fast that his cohost can barely get a word in edgewise or has to match his frantic pitch. It leaves little space for nuanced discussion. It quickly gets annoying and reminds me of my socially awkward nerdy friends in high school.
Needs an editor!
Burrage clearly has lots of experience with and enthusiasm for SF, and his reviews contain plenty of useful information. But I find his podcasts to be rambling and repetitious. It's fine that he doesn't use a script, but he needs to have his thoughts a little better organized before recording, and not be afraid to press the pause button. If I were an editor I would send these podcasts back to be shortened by about half.
Host irritatingly interrupts his guest.
In my first listen (Altered Carbon episode) I was so annoyed by his talking over his guest that whatever he was saying was lost to me.
I was going to give it another chance I see that another reviewer noticed the same thing a few years ago, so I don’t believe I’ll bother to listen to this podcast again.
