The Nature of Nothing is a podcast by two friends who've seen way too much TV, and try to prove it through the ageless art of pointless banter. Think Seinfeld if George and Jerry were giant nerds. We explore various topics through "Would you rather...?" questions, as well as take a deep-dive into one big idea every episode.
||ExplicitX-Treme Justice (The Worst X-Man Finale)||This week, our heroes discover that it's harder to choose an ally than they originally thought. (Growing out their facial hair proves difficult, too.) *** Spoiler Alert *** Up first, Brad and Dan lament their inability to grow facial hair, even now that they're grown men. Are soulmates a real thing? Would you want to find yours even if they'd die after only a few years? Does that change if you have to fight everyone who wears the same clothes as you? And, finally, Brad and Dan work out who - once and for all - can be crowned as The Shittest X-Man. (Also who the most delicious one is.) ||ExplicitIntermission||Naturists everywhere! This is just a quick update to let you know we're switching to a bi-weekly schedule. Our work schedule is going to be pretty busy for the next few months, so, instead of missing random weeks we decided that a slowed schedule is a better option. You can still say hello to us on Twitter or via email and we'll be back on the 6th of February! See the full show notes at https://natureofnothing.com/episode/85||1/29/2019||Free||View in iTunes|
||ExplicitSave Ferris (Surprise 80s Christmas Movies)||As the weather gets colder and our heroes rest for the holidays, they think back on entertainment from their youth, and discuss how to get away with a future (hypothetical) crime. *** Spoiler Alert *** We discuss our first piece of viewer feedback! The would you rathers launch an interesting discussion about the best application of a 'get out of jail free' card, and the differences in our videogame play styles. And, do you want to be the best at something, even if it gets you no respect, or is *some* respect important? Finally, it's time for their Christmas special episode! Everyone talks about Die Hard being a Christmas movie, but that's where the conversation ends. The 80s had many weird and wonderful movies, so Brad and Dan use science to figure out if any others are actually sleeper Christmas movies that can be enjoyed alongside Die Hard. (Brad also totally flubs the name of an 80s crush.) See the full show notes at https://natureofnothing.com/episode/8||1/23/2019||Free||View in iTunes|
||ExplicitOmega Level Nerd (The Worst X-Man)||Sometimes it's easier to know what you *don't* want in a companion than what you do, so, this week, Brad and Dan figure out who they definitely don't want as an adventuring companion! *** Spoiler Alert *** Deep in the past, Christmas is soon arriving, so Dan and Brad decide if they'll do something special for the Naturists. (This may be coming out sooner than you think!) Is it more dangerous to be attacked by birds or dogs? If you had to be attacked by one over the other, there are definitely pros and cons for each. Also, is it better to run in the rain or hide away inside? And Dan decides between two very socially awkward tasks while dealing with the Pokemon Go problem. Finally, in their deep dive, the boys create a bracket competition to determine once and for all who is the worst X-man! Sixteen team members go head to head in a knock-out competition to see, once and for all, who the shitest X-man really is! ||ExplicitThis Isn't Society (5G Society)||The adventurers ponder what happens when they die. Not in a spiritual sense, but with their remains - a common problem when on a quest. They also wonder if it's possible to adventure forever, and never have to go home. *** Spoiler Alert *** This week, a new name for the viewers is proposed, and they're sure there won't be any unfortunate consequences! Next, Brad and Dan discuss nicknames, what they want to happen to their bodies when they die, and the illusions of attraction. Some deep personal flaws are also discussed, as well as tattoos revealing all the bad things you've done. Later on, they flesh out the 5G Society: When we can cut more and more of our wires and get super-fast internet anywhere, will we still live at fixed addresses, or roam around in RVs and live anywhere we want? ||ExplicitSchrodinger's Profession (Multiplicity)||Life on the road is hard, and Brad and Dan muse over the road less travelled. They also ponder the question of if they should clone themselves. *** Spoiler Alert *** Brad and Dan (try to) develop some more life rules and etiquette, this time involving elevators. The Would you rathers (as usual) cover love and regrets, and what they'd do in the past or future. During After Hours, the seminal 90s classic Multiplicity (starring Batman's Michael Keaton) is used as a framework to discuss whether or not they'd like to clone themselves. ||ExplicitKill Enough People (DnD Character Alignments)||The adventurers learn that they need to define psychopathy, as well as learn what sort of men they want to grow up to be. *** Spoiler Alert *** Brad and Dan tell gym stories about the people there that weird them out, and we meet the mysterious DoppelDanner. Some important elements of gym etiquette are also defined. Would you rathers discuss love and power. During their After Hours, they discuss Dungeons and Dragons character alignments, and how they affect today's society. ||ExplicitHard Stop (Best Gotham City to Live In)||At a fork in the road, our heroes have to decide which Gotham City is the one for them, as well as how to part ways gracefully. ***Spoiler Alert*** This week, the boys spend way too long talking about Seinfeld (and may even do some impressions!), as well as take a modern look at eternal questions raised in Seinfeld. Instead of play their regular game of "Would you rather...?", they instead compare themselves to characters in various shows, including Seinfeld, the A Team, and Cracked's After Hours crew. Later, they take a long, hard look at Batman, specifically asking which version of Gotham City would be the best one to live in for the average Gotham citizen. ||ExplicitFull Erotic (Best Monster Roommate)||As their adventure continues, food becomes an issue, and they have to consider lodgings. *** Spoiler Alert *** This week, Dan and Brad have their first themed episode: Halloween! But, first, they voice their concerns about the current state of Big Cereal. During a game of "Would you rather...?", they figure out if it's better to be loved or feared (and esprit de corps!), at which date number they'd go and see "Fifty Shades of Grey", and if the touch screen rules all. The Sacha Baron Cohen character Borat is also a concern. During their After Hours-esq discussion, they talk about roommates. Specifically, which mythical/horror creature would make the best rommate! Options include vampires, witches, and many more! See the full show notes at https://natureofnothing.com/episode/2||12/12/2018||Free||View in iTunes|
||ExplicitNormal for Human (The Borg)||Brad and Dan set out on a quest to understand the Nature of Nothing! Their first adventure has them ponder whether or not they want to see into the future, and if we're all turning into metal zombies! *** Spoiler Alert *** The show opens with Brad and Dan discussing their bonafides regarding pop culture, then jump into a game of "Would you rather...?" Are you always early or late to places? What's more important: Money or memories? And, would you want to look into your own future? Then, later on, our heroes discuss the possibility of humanity turning into the Borg some time into the future, and if that'd actually be a bad thing? (They also figure out the best way to assassinate someone, and how to deal with whistlers. They aren't necessarily the same thing.)
