NetFlakes is a podcast where we talk critically about the movies and series available to stream on Netflix in Canada. Our reviews go deep and even we don't know where they're going to go until we're done. The NetFlakes Podcast is hosted by Dylan Clark-Moore, along with frequent co-host Caroline Diezyn.

Amazing Conversations

Dylan is a very knowledgeable and eloquent film critic but the real strength of this podcast, I think, lies in his ability to draw interesting conversations about everything from gay alliance to the failed futures of scifi to the beauty of film stock out of a vast range guests. These conversations are relaxed, intelligent, and entertaining. It's like sitting on a couch with some of your most knowledgeable friends - the cool ones, the cool-but-nerdy ones - and just talking about films you've watched for an hour.

Look, this podcast is great.

Look, this podcast is great. At first I thought the best episodes were the ones where Dylan & Co would go way too deep into some dumb artifact of the 1980s or 1990s, tearing it apart with wit and love. Then I decided the best ones were the ones where Dylan & Co (usually the adamantine Caroline Diezyn) had brilliant things to say about an intelligent recent movie involving robots. But now I pretty much dig them all. "Movies that happen to be on Canadian Netflix" still seems like a slender reed on which to hang a podcast, but they always have smart, searching, funny conversations, and the barely-there premise means that every episode ends up being something different and cool.

Also I guess something happened to their iTunes account so they lost all their stars and reviews, which makes them look like they're just getting started, but they're not - they've been at it for ages, with a back catalog of like 60 great episodes. You don't need to go back to the beginning, you don't need to listen in order. Just grab one that looks good and jump in.

Brilliant insights and discussion

You don't need to be a Canadian or even a Netflix customer to appreciate the NetFlakes Podcast. Dylan and his guests bring fresh insight and perspective to a broad spectrum of films. I've discovered some great movies I might have skipped without this show, and gained new appreciation for old favourites. Without a doubt, this is the best source of independent movie reviews and discussion on iTunes.
