Ruined by iHeartPodcasts

I’m giving this five stars but I’m unsubscribing because the show has recently become unlistenable. This has been one of my favourite podcasts for years. I’m a huge fan of the content and the narration. However, the new ad system makes this unbearable to listen to. 1) The volume of the ads doesn’t match the show at all, it’s completely jarring every time. 2) Its the same 3-4 ads every time, multiple times an episode. 3) The ads are themselves annoying. Why does it seem like they’re advertising some of the lowest common denominator of content? Are these just AI generated ad scripts that didn’t make the cut for late night History channel airings? 4) Maybe the worst part is that the ads play seemingly randomly in the episode and it completely pulls you out of the story. I figure the podcast distribution through iHeart is just randomly placing the ads without any human input. I guess the host is trying to earn some money off this because letting it die, and in doing so, he signed the monetization away to iHeart for cash or something. I don’t blame him, it’s tough to make a living off podcasts, but I’m out, this really isn’t worth listening to anymore. If there is ever an ad free Patreon option or something I’ll come back (it seems like the current Patreon link is dead?), but otherwise this is a sad end to a good show.

I’m trying to keep listening but it’s getting hard

I respect all the work that goes into doing a podcast but the narration is unbearable. He makes it so hard to listen to the stories and my mind starts to wander and I find myself rewinding over and over. The narration has always been dull but it seems to have gotten worse with this new season. And the end of sentence intonation is strange. I think this podcast can improve by either the narration being more lively, or just change the narrator altogether and cut the ads. It’s too much and ruins the flow

Ads are gross and obnoxious

Used to be good but then the stupid ads got more and more obnoxious and not to mention 10x LOUDERRRRR than the audio. Not even decent ads just loud annoying radio tabloid level ads. Unfollowed, your show sucks at least try to time the ads better. GROSS. Check Reddit we all agree you have lost tons of followers because of this. I hope the money is worth it you sell outs
