Deep in the heart of the Alaskan wilderness, the Iditarod trail plays host to the last great race. From Anchorage to Nome, 96 teams will attempt to traverse over 1,000 miles of the most inhospitable terrain on the planet, with 16 finely tuned dogs as an engine. Man and man's best friend must work together, care for each other, and play a disciplined game of strategy if they hope to be first to the finish line in Nome. I'm not a big fan of reality TV - often it's just bad acting with an excuse tied to it. But this is cool because what they are doing has, clearly, no room for amateurs taking sad runs at stardom. They have to maintain a team of dogs, which is already hard enough, out in the cold - and travel long journeys in bitter cold with zero automation. I was surprised at how interested I became and sort of liked that the fact that I was looking forward to what happens next. It's worth what they ask for this series. Unique and real.
What a race!!!!!!! It was worth the wait.
I had wanted to watch this since it first aired. My girlfriend and I watched all 6 episodes in less than a week and probably would have watched the whole thing at once if we could have. The race was really well documented and you get a great idea of how mentally tough this race is. It was also great seeing how much the mushers care for their dogs. The race itself was intense with a lot of great personalities! Definitely recommend getting the whole series.
