Albenrezension

Kama Sutra released the Lovin' Spoonful's second album, Daydream, and their soundtrack for the wacky comedy What's Up, Tiger Lily? as a double-LP set in 1977. The double-LP package is interesting, but it's not particularly valuable as a collector's item, and the individual releases are more readily available than this set. Daydream was very strong; this time, most of the tunes are originals, with the exception of a cover of "Bald Headed Lena." Joe Butler and Yanovsky are featured on some lead vocals, and the album includes two more hits, "You Didn't Have to Be So Nice" and "Didn't Want to Have to Do It." What's Up, Tiger Lily? marks one of the first times a rock band wrote the whole score for a movie that they weren't starring in. There's lots of whimsy, mostly instrumental, and it includes the hit "Pow." "Introduction to Flick" is a brief monologue from the film's screenwriter/producer, Woody Allen.

Like most of the folk-rockers,...
