Kursbeschreibung
The search to find renewable energy sources is one of the dominant themes in the 21st Century. The historical reliance on the fossil energy sources of gas, coal and oil is not sustainable. Nuclear power remains a possible long term source of energy but events in the recent past have damaged the confidence of governments to commit to new programs of nuclear plant build.
But how realistic is it to pin our hopes on renewable energy as a substitute for these sources? This learning pathway explores the alternatives of geothermal, solar, wave, tidal, wind and hydroelectric energy, and considers the technical challenges posed by them. It also looks at the policy implications at national and regional levels. How can the policy makers implement changes that make renewable energy attractive and effective for consumers? What influence do we have in their policy making regarding sustainable technologies? And what are the projects being planned for these renewable power sources?
