Reluctant to take the mic herself, French pop singer Indila started off as a composer, writing songs for such artists as Admiral T, Axel Tony, and M. Pokora. ∙ French rapper Youssoupha’s 2012 hit “Dreamin’” drummed up so much buzz that Indila, who sang the chorus, scored a major-label deal not long after the song dropped. ∙ The dramatic build of her first single, “Dernière danse,” propelled it to No. 2 on the French charts, No. 1 on iTunes in Greece and Romania, and to 600 million views online. ∙ Her full-length debut, 2014’s Mini World, spent nearly a year hanging out in the French Top 10, and it won the award for Best New Album of the Year at the Victoires de la Musique. ∙ The international success of “Dernière danse” earned her Best French Artist honors at the 2014 MTV Europe Music Awards.
